Logue Brook Dam Jetty. Camping at Lake Brockman Tourist Park

Camping at Lake Brockman, Logue Brook Dam

Camping at Lake Brockman, what a great way to enjoy Logue Brook Dam. Just a short drive from Perth, Logue Brook Dam it’s a very attractive dam to enjoy. It has turquoise blue water and is surrounded by thick Jarrah forest. The perfect day trip or weekend location amongst nature to recharge your batteries.

Getting there

Sitting in between Waroona and Harvey in the Peel region, Logue Brook Dam is approx 90 mins drive south of Perth.

Lake Brockman Tourist Park is the name of the campgrounds at the banks of Logue Brook Dam. If you plan to camp at Lake Brockman Tourist Park, the best way to get there is off the South West Hwy, Logue Brook Dam Road and follow the signs. The GPS can lead you astray if you only search Logue Brook Dam, because there are a few entrances and day use areas google might pick up.

Logue Brook Dam

As mentioned Logue Brook Dam is the name for this man made dam. There is one designated day use area. With a public long drop toilet and a few picnic tables/bbq’s. However, you can pull up anywhere along the banks of the dam to enjoy for the day.

Logue Brook Dam is a very popular water sport location with water skiing permitted. Expect to see and hear some boat noise throughout the day. If you are after a quiet camp spot, this may not be the one of you, especially in summer.

You can drive all the way around the dam, mostly on a graded unsealed road, 2wd and 4wd access. There are some areas close to the waters edge that will be 4wd access only due to some rutted or rough terrain, however there in plenty of areas you can access with a 2wd.

Camping at Lake Brockman Campgrounds

Lake Brockman Tourist Park  is the name of the tourist park that controls the campgrounds and accommodation surrounding Logue Brook Dam. The tourist park offers cabins and glamping tents as well as powered and unpowered sites. This is why its called a tourist park and not just a caravan park. The toilets and the facilities are very clean and well maintained.

There are multiple options for accommodation including powered and unpowered campsites, bush sites, caravan sites and also glamping tents and cabins.

Bush Camping Options:

Lake Brockman Tourist Park has loads of bush camping sites separated into 5 loops. When searching on their website it is called “Logue Brook Campsites”. If you wish to camp as close to the Dam as possible, choose the tent only sites in the Karrak Loop. There are 12 tent only sites within the Karrak Loop and they do book up quickly. Or pick any other loops for nice bush style camping. All the other loops / bush camping options will cater for caravans and trailers.

There are only long drop toilets provided in the bush camping options, no showers or drinking water.

Powered Sites:

These powered sites are located within what feels like a traditional caravan park. The sites are located close to the cafe and closer to all the accommodation, chalets the tourist park provide. These sites are not as private as the bush camp sites. However, they give you access to an ablution block (with flushing toilets and showers) and a camp kitchen and amenities area. The large clearing is surrounded by lovely bush however each site is not surrounded by trees. The sites are laid out like a traditional caravan park and quite exposed.

Activities and surrounding areas

As mentioned the Dam is a popular spot for water sports, fishing, swimming, 4wd’ing and there are some walking trails throughout the forest. The munda biddi trail (1000km ride from Kalamunda to Albany) leads directly through the forest and is a popular spot for bike backers to stay for the night.

Best time of year to camp at Lake Brockman

If you enjoy water sports and water activities, summer is definitely a great time to make the most of the Dam.

In winter and the cooler months you will enjoy misty mornings on the dam. Also in the cooler months you can have camp fires so that is always enjoyable to warm up by a fire. Although there is probably more activities to enjoy around the Dam in summer, its also beautiful for a winter getaway.

Final Thoughts

A great place to explore as a day trip or camp for a weekend away. I have only stayed in the bush campsites (at Karrak Loop) and I was really impressed by the facilities and the location. Plenty to see and do. After walking around the tourist park it is clear this place gets very well looked after and the staff are very friendly.

If you are unable to book this campgrounds Waroona Dam is near by and camping options are also available at Lake Navarino Tourist Park.
