12 Jul 10 Things to See and Do in Albany
There are more than 10 things to see and do in Albany, that’s a promise. However, to narrow it down here are 10 really exciting tourist attractions to see and do when you visit Albany.
When I was growing up Albany was a town for retired farmers with not much appeal. Nowadays Albany is a thriving and vibing town in WA’s South West. It has stepped up its game with so many amazing tourist attractions, stunning beaches and great restaurants to enjoy.
The coastline in Albany is stunning and pulls in a lot of tourists in summer but the town itself is a buzz of activity all year round so there is plenty to do outside of the so called high season.
1) Eat and drink at Liberte
Cocktails and amazing food, what more could you want. If you are looking for a funky place for a feed this is the place. With its Asian fusion food each plate is jam packed with flavour. The wines and beer are all locally sourced and the cocktail list is to die for. If you want to eat here, this place does book out so be sure to reserve a seat in the eclectic dining room, with its vintage furniture. Liberte
2) See the silo art
Silo art started as a way to draw in crowds to regional towns that needed some influx of tourism, a little off the beaten track they required a little something special to draw in the crowds. Albany has this stunning artwork on one of the working grain silo’s in Albany Port. Be sure to stop by and marvel at the artwork in person.
3) Walk along the Ellen Cove Boardwalk
What better way to start or end the day? A nice walk along the picturesque boardwalk from Middleton beach to Albany Port. This lovely boardwalk hugs Mt Clarence that overlooks the ocean. Catch sunrise from Middleton beach side or from the west side catch the sunset at Princess Point. Or if you are just up for some exercise this walk is lovely with a picturesque view.

The 12km hike will take you along the granite head, with the most stunning beaches on either side of you. So many people rave about this hike and often see dolphins and also whales in the migrating months of July – Oct. It is a long one but with amazing weather well worth it just for the scenery. It will get windy, so keep an eye on the weather.
6) Take a drive through the Stirling Ranges.
Albany is renowned for its unpredictable weather. When the weather is bad or windy there needs to be something to do. Take a scenic drive through the Stirling range national park. Sounds boring but it is one amazing scenic drive. The Stirling ranges are stunning and the undulating country is well worth a visit. If the weather is bad you can just enjoy the drive.
7) Watch a sunset from Due South Bar
Albany is a little confusing, being surrounded by headlands and small islands your point of direction is a little confused. A great sunset spot is the restaurant and bar Due South, Which sits on the marina and has a lovely sunset spot for a glass of wine or dinner. DUE SOUTH BAR.
8) Check out the Albany Windfarm
Go for the views or plan to do the walk. From the lookout you can see both the sunset and the sunrise. So this is a great spot for morning or evening walks. Being the wind farm it can get a little hectic up there if the wind is blowing so definitely keep an eye on the weather if you are going. Entry is free and there is a lovely information stand erected by Western Power to explain how the power is harvested.
9) Explore some of the stunning beaches (Weather Permitting)
Misery beach, while it is a little drive out of Albany, in 2021 it was labeled the best beach in Australia. For good reason. Most of the beaches in and around Albany are stunning. Some to get you started is Misery Beach, Little Beach, Naranup Beach, Emu Point, Frenchman Bay.
